Commemorating 9/11 in Milan

On 9/11 Consul General Ambassador Philip Reeker participated in a commemoration organized in Milan by the Città Metropolitana to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

The Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala and the Consul General met in the small piazza adjoining the headquarters of Città Metropolitana. The Consul General and the Mayor walked together in a joint wreath laying ceremony and delivered remarks on the importance of remembering the attacks. Representatives of the Consular Corps of Milan attended the commemoration.
In his remarks, Mayor Sala compared Milan to New York City for its number of Consulates and urged people to never forget. Consul General Reeker emphasized the fact that we should not surrender to fear.”
Commemorations in Northern Italy

Ceremonies to commemorate 9/11 were organized also in Padua, Brescia and Segrate.
Officers from the Consulate participated in these commemorations.
Christopher Wurst, the Consul for Press and Culture, represented the Consulate in Padua, at the ceremony held at Daniel Libeskind’s Memorial “Memory and Light” with representatives by the U.S. Army Garrison in Vicenza.
The Consul for Management Affairs Jay Avecilla travelled to Brescia to join Mayor Emilio Del Bono in a commemoration held at a local park named after the Twin Towers.

Adam Leff, Consul for Economic Affairs, was in Segrate with Mayor Paolo Micheli and City Councilor for Culture Giampaolo Poldi, who read a poem on the American Flag by Walt Whitman.
