On Wednesday, February 8, Milan Consul General, Amb. Philip Reeker visited Milan’s new soccer museum, Museo Internazionale del Calcio La Stringa d’Oro (“the Golden Shoelace”). The museum opened in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, within the site of the former Expo 2015 James Beard American Restaurant. The museum not only displays memorabilia and mementoes from Italian soccer lore, but also showcases teams and leagues from around the world, including women’s soccer.
During his visit, the Consul General donated an official Abby Wambach U.S. Women’s National Team jersey on behalf of the State Department’s Sports Diplomacy Division. Wambach is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, FIFA Women’s World Cup champion and the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year.
