On June 20, Chargé d’Affaires Kelly Degnan welcomed 80 guests to the Embassy’s Iftar reception, including second-generation Italian Muslims, alumni of exchange programs, imams, members of the diplomatic corps from Muslim-majority nations, and NGO representatives active in promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue.

In her remarks, the Chargé highlighted the long history of the U.S. as a destination for immigrants and refugees, a country where different ethnicities and religions co-exist together peacefully, and where American Muslims are recognized as an important part of America’s economy, culture and society. In the 17th annual World Refugee Day she praised Italy’s critical humanitarian role on the frontlines of the migration crisis and recognized the support for refugees and migrants as a major priority for the U.S. Mission in Italy.

The event was amplified through the Embassy social media channels.
