Chargé d’Affaires Shawn Crowley visited the NATO Defense College in Rome

Rome, April 6, 2023

Chargé d’Affaires Shawn Crowley visited the NATO Defense College in Rome on Thursday, April 6, 2023.  Originally located in Paris, the NATO Defense College was founded thanks to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the first Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who identified early on the need for a new international defense institution with a unique educational mission.

It moved to Rome in 1966, where it continues to fulfil its mission to contribute to the effectiveness and cohesion of the Alliance through senior-level education on transatlantic security issues.  CDA Crowley met with Lieutenant General Olivier Rittimann, Commandant of the NATO Defense College, who briefed him, along with NDC Division Heads, on the school’s mission, structure, and activities.  “We are proud of more than 70 years of collaboration to train NATO’s next generation of leaders,” Crowley said as he concluded the visit with a tour of the college campus.
