Consul General Mary Ellen Countryman visited Sicily, September 20-22, focusing on meetings and events in the Palermo area during her first visit.  She met with Sicilian President Rosario Crocetta, Mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando, Prefect of Palermo Antonella De Miro, and Palermo Chief Prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi, who all were pleased that she chose to visit Sicily so soon after her arrival.

“To understand the South, I felt it important for me to start in Sicily.  I am here to see first-hand the good work on integration carried out not only by the institutions, but also by NGOs and local communities.”  She met with immigrant women at the Santa Chiara integration center and also attended the presentation press conference of Cous Cous Fest 2016, underling the role of food as an integration tool.

A broad spectrum of Sicilian print, broadcast, and online media positively reported on her visit.
