The USCIS field office in Rome, Italy, permanently closed to the public on May 29, 2020. Please see the USCIS public website for details and filing instructions for USCIS petitions and applications. The consular sections at the U.S. Embassy in Rome and the U.S. Consulates General in Naples, Milan, and Florence will assume responsibility for certain limited services previously provided by USCIS to individuals residing in Italy.

Please note that you should not send documents via courier/mail to the U.S. Embassy and/or Consulates in Italy if you do not reside in Italy.

Petition for Alien Relative (Form I-130): The U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Consulates are unable to accept any Petition for Alien Resident (Form I-130). Please see the USCIS public website for filing instructions. If you believe you fall under one of the circumstances described in USCIS Policy Manual, Volume 6, Part B, Chapter 3, please email the U.S. Consulate in Naples at IVNaples@state.gov.

Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition (Form I-730): The U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Consulates are unable to accept any Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition (Form I-730). Please see the USCIS public website for filing instructions. If you are the beneficiary of an approved I-730 petition and you have received a notification that your petition was sent overseas to Italy, please email the U.S. Consulate in Naples at IVNaples@state.gov. Please note that Naples also processes Following-to-Join Asylum and Refugee Visas (V92/V93 visas).

Application for Refugee Travel Document (Form I-131): The U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Consulates are unable to accept any Application for Refugee Travel Document (Form I-131). Please see the USCIS public website for filing instructions. If you received a notice from USCIS indicating that your travel document was sent, at your request, to an embassy or consulate overseas, please contact the appropriate consular section.

Application for Re-entry Permit (Form I-131): The U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Consulates are unable to accept any Application for Re-entry Permit (Form I-131). Please see the USCIS public website for filing instructions. If you received a notice from USCIS indicating that your reentry permit was sent, at your request, to an embassy or consulate overseas, please contact the appropriate consular section.

Application for Carrier Documentation/Boarding Foil (Form I-131A): Please see the USCIS public website for filing instructions and read the “special instructions” section to determine if you need to file Form I-131A. Before submitting your online filing fee, please reach out to the nearest consular section via email. For Rome, email (RomeVisa@state.gov); for Milan (usvisamilan@state.gov); for Florence (visaflorence@state.gov); for Naples (IVNaples@state.gov). The consular section will send you detailed instructions on how to apply. Please note you must have an appointment for a boarding foil. Boarding foils will NOT be printed the same day of the interview.

Record of Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Resident Status (Form I-407): The U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Consulates are unable to accept any Record of Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Resident Status (Form I-407) unless Form I-407 is filed during a Diplomatic Visa application. Please see the USCIS public website for filing instructions. If you are a Lawful Permanent Resident and need to apply for a Diplomatic Visa, please email the consular section you are applying at for instructions.”
