Location: Italy
Event: The Italian government has confirmed cases of COVID-19 throughout the country. U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and qualifying family members who normally reside in the United States should arrange for immediate return home or be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. Direct flights to the United States are available through Alitalia, which currently has one direct flight per day. Book flights directly through Alitalia at https://www.alitalia.com/en_us. Lufthansa currently has two flights per day from Milan to Frankfurt, where travelers can connect to the U.S.
Travelers should also be prepared for additional travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice. Please review your airline’s current policies and procedures prior to arrival at the airport. Travelers connecting to international flights from Rome/FCO should be prepared for flight schedules that may require an overnight at the airport. Travelers should contact their airline directly to ask any questions in advance of their flight.
The Italian government’s March 22, 2020 decree provides that travelers transiting between their present location in Italy and their point of departure in-country must provide justification and documentation to authorities, if requested. Visit the website of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for additional information on Italian government decrees and measures.
