Villa Taverna
(As prepared for delivery)
Good morning and welcome to Villa Taverna. Thank you all for joining us here today, especially Under Secretary Tripodi. I would like to recognize the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for hosting and co-organizing the 14th Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation.
I would also like to thank our colleagues from other U.S. and Italian government agencies, institutions, and universities for their contributions to the JCM process, for traveling to Rome, and for their continuing role in making our science and technology relationship one of the strongest pillars of the U.S.-Italy bilateral relationship.
Over the past four years, numerous research agencies from the United States and Italy have forged closer cooperation in areas ranging from high energy physics and artificial intelligence to climate change.
Our countries share the belief that our scientific partnerships, built through joint research and dialogue, are essential to addressing the world’s most difficult problems, improving our communities, and saving lives. Sfortunatamente, la scienza deve ancora trovare un modo per migliorare il mio italiano, quindi apprezzo la pazienza dei nostri ospiti italiani nell’ascoltare questo discorso in inglese.
Thank you again for being here today. Best wishes to us all for a successful JCM. We will see you at the opening session at 2 pm.
