Naples, November 22, 2016
Consul General Mary Ellen Countryman, with a group of Marines, and other consulate volunteers cooked and served a bountiful Thanksgiving meal to approximately 30 homeless Italians and migrants at the daily soup kitchen run by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Naples, at the “Saint Louise de Marillac” Convent, located near the consulate.
“This is a holiday that includes all Americans – said Consul General Countryman – regardless of their creed, ethnic background, or color. It originated from a history of friendship among different peoples, and brings a message of unity and brotherhood. One of the traditions of Thanksgiving is to share a meal not only with friends and family, but also with our neighbors and our communities, It’s our way to be thankful for everything we have in our lives.”
