Photo Requirements
All passport photos must be taken without eye glasses.
For U.S. passport photo requirements and some helpful tips about photo quality you can refer to the State Department website. Because many photographers in Italy are unfamiliar with U.S. passport photo specifications, we strongly recommend that you print out the photo requirements for U.S. Passports from the above website and take them with you to the photographer. Photos can also be obtained from a photo booth located in the consular sections in Rome and Naples for 6 euros and in Milan for 5 euros. (Please note the photo machine will only accept 5 and 10 euros notes, and the cashiers are unable to exchange US dollars or make change.)
Processing Times
Except in emergencies, U.S. passports are now produced at facilities in the United States. These passports will be ready for collection approximately five weeks after submission. For lost or stolen passports, a limited validity passport can be issued the same day the application is made if the application is received before 12:00PM. Otherwise, it will be processed on the next business day.
