Social Security

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:    The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is negatively impacting our Operations.  The Federal Benefits Unit is experiencing delays. Please avoid sending multiple emails as this will cause further delays.  We are doing our best to assist everyone in the most efficient manner possible and apologize for the inconvenience.  Thank you.

EIP: The Social Security Administration is not the Federal government agency responsible for issuance of the Stimulus Payment. The U.S Treasury and IRS are the responsible agencies. Therefore, we do not have any information about the benefits in the recently passed stimulus package.  The Federal Benefits Unit does not have the ability to help individuals seek assistance.
We also cannot offer guidance on negotiating U.S. Treasury paper checks.  U.S Embassies and Consulates also do not have the ability to cash these payments. We encourage you to review the information available at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus

If you reside in Italy and have questions regarding services provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA), you must contact the SSA Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) located in Italy. For more information on their services and how to contact them, please visit their webpage at: https://it.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/fbu/

For comprehensive information on SSA’s services abroad, please visit SSA’s webpage Service Around the World.

If you are already receiving SSA benefits payments, there will be no change in the method of distribution of those payments.
